Friday Announcements--3/9/2012

Spelling: Spelling list is in their folder. Please see their pretest as well.
Reading: Students are learning to SYNTHESIZE. Students are putting all of our comprehension keys together. They are making connections, adding to their schema, visualizing, inferring,  predicting, determining importance, and questioning.

Please have your child read the story, "The ROBOT" to you in their blue reading books
Math: Students are learning their math facts. We are continuing to focus on +1, +2, +3. Students will have a test on THURSDAY on those math facts. Please have them practice each night. We have also been playing in a tournament in class where the students have to say the answer faster than their opponet. This brings a lot of fun and competition to our classroom. We will be playing in a tournament with the other first grade classrooms in April, so KEEP PRACTICING.
Science: Students are learning how to eat a nutritious meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Students are learning the new campaign called MY PLATE. They are recognizing what there plate should look like at home. Also, it is recommended that students get 60 minutes of exercise in per day so Mr. Billy and YOGA here we come.  This has been a fun unit that they've enjoyed learning about.

FRIDAY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Spelling: Spelling list is in their folder. Please see their pretest as well.
Reading: We spent a lot of time in our Dr. Seuss books learning about rhyming words, nonsense words, word families, etc. Please have your child read you the story, "Tell Me a Story" . Don't forget to send the interview back on MONDAY!
Math: Students are learning their math facts. Students will have a test on THURSDAY on +1 & +2'  AND +3's. Please have them practice each night.

Science: We're still continuing with our nutrition unit.

Friday Announcements

Reading: Students are learning to determine important facts in their stories. They are sharing information in their books that are important, interesting, or surprising to them in their stories. We will continue with this KEY through the month of February. No story in the blue reading book this week.
Math: Students are learning their math facts. We are continuing to focus on +1, +2, and -1’s and -2’s. Students will have a test on THURSDAY on +1 & +2's math facts. Please have them practice each night.
Science: Students are learning how to eat a nutritious meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Social Studies: Students are finishing up  learning about the presidents of the USA.  We will learn about Ben Franklin next week.

Friday Announcements

Spelling: No spelling test next week
Reading: Students are learning to determine important facts in their stories. They are sharing information in their books that are important, interesting, or surprising to them in their stories. We will continue with this KEY through the month of February.
Please have your child read the story, “At Home Around the World” to you in their blue reading books over the long weekend. Please review the highlighted vocabulary words as well.
Math: Students are learning their math facts. We are continuing to focus on +1, +2, and -1’s and -2’s. We have also been working with money and oh my goodness, we need a refresher. Please continue to count money with your child at home as well. We have a spiral curriculum which means once it’s taught it doesn’t come back again for a long time, so it’s important to keep it ongoing at home. We are doing the same in the classroom as well.
Science: Students are learning about teeth, how to brush, and keep them clean. Doctor Allison Buss will be coming into the classroom to discuss teeth with them again next week.
Social Studies: Students are learning about the presidents of the USA.  We will go more in detail on Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. They will also stop by for a visit next week.
